finding the best product to suit a specific project. We always have a member of the technical team available to answer questions regarding suitability of specific wood
types and installation.
We realise that price is always a major consideration when purchasing a wood floor, keeping this in mind we have searched the world for both budget and premium products,
our aim is to suit all budgets. If we don't think a particular product is suitable we will tell you even if this means we jeopardise an order.
Southern Hardwood Flooring is a family run company. All our fitters are trained within the company. The team is dedicated to meeting the needs of our
clients. You may only need the services of one team member or maybe all of them.
We specialise in all aspects of design from the complicated design to the normal domestic installation. We have the exclusive installation rights to the unique SAIMA range in the UK. |
About SAIMA | design
Alvar Aalto designed a special, plywood based flooring for an opera house in Italy in the 1950's. The
thickness of the product was 26 mm, massive plywood, groove and joint structure around. The
product was called " Kotka plywood " and it was produced up to 1970's in Karhula, Finland
In the 1980's Metsä-Serla, M-Real nowadays, commenced with the production of Saima woodflooring with 4,0 mm surface layer.
Upofloor purchased the Saima-production activities in 1991.
Karelia Corporation was established and Saima was transferred to Karelia. Saima Design -production commenced in 2001.
